A long Time ago... - The long hisitory of goldfish
Goldfish, as we know them today, are said to have originated from a red-mutated funa (crucian carp) found in the southern China wild over 2,000 years ago. After hundreds of years of crossbreeding their beauty gradually improved with each new spawn. They were brought to Japan in 1502 and raised exclusively by the rich and noble Samurai as highly prized, rare pets. It was not until the 1800's that goldfish become popular with the general public. In no time, they were loved by all and commonly kept throughout the land with new and more beautiful species being bred as their popularity increased.
Today, goldfish are one of the most common ornamental fish kept in Japan and Hikari's goldfish diets are the market leader among high level hobbyists, professionals, and beginners too.
